Admission
Process
To learn about the admission processes and registration opening dates for each school, visit the open houses and admissions page or check the Admission section on the websites of the schools you are interested in.

Preschool-Elementary
For preschool-elementary, registration generally takes place in the fall or winter before the child enters school. However, some schools offering preschool-elementary have waiting lists, and in these cases, it is recommended to apply as early as possible, as schools typically operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
Open House
Primary schools hold open house days in the fall or winter. Attend the open house days with your child in the year leading up to their entry into school, and take the opportunity to meet the staff, inspect the facilities, and ask questions to ensure that this school is a good fit for your child and family. If the school you’re interested in does not hold an open house or if you cannot attend, it is possible to schedule a personalized visit.

Admission process
The admission process is relatively simple: in person during your visit or on the school’s website, an admission application form must be completed. An application fee for reviewing the file may be required. These fees vary from one school to another.
In some cases, parents and the child may be invited to an interview with the school administration, or students may be asked to complete an entrance test. These steps are designed to better understand your child before they start school.
The school will contact you afterward regarding the acceptance or rejection of your application.
If you accept the school’s offer to admit your child, the law requires the institution to send you an annual educational services contract, which you will need to read and sign. Registration fees will apply, up to a maximum of $200.
That’s it! Your child is now admitted to a private institution. Your support and daily encouragement are important at the start of the school journey and beyond. Participating in school activities is also a great way to better understand your child’s experience in preschool and elementary school.

Secondary
Registration takes place in the fall prior to the child’s entry into school. However, some schools may accept late registrations if spots become available or if they decide to open new classes.
Open House
When your child is in Grade 5 of elementary school, attend the open house days of the schools you are interested in, together with your child. This first contact helps in shortlisting the schools where your child would like to study. Secondary school open houses typically take place at the beginning of the school year, in September or October. Some schools hold their open houses in the spring. It is an opportunity to register your child for placement tests or interviews. Most schools also offer the possibility to register online.

The placement tests generally assess the skills of Grade 5 students, particularly in the areas of languages and mathematics. A fee of $50 is required to open your child’s file, which also grants access to the tests or interviews, depending on the school.

Students with special needs
If your child has special needs, it is recommended to inquire about the accommodations offered during the admission tests with the person responsible for admissions at the school where you wish to apply. Many private schools receive far more applications than available spots. In such cases, schools conduct selection tests or interviews.
However, the school may refuse to admit a student if the student requires services that the school is unable to provide. These are isolated cases, as most private schools have professional services to support students with special needs.
Private schools specialized in special education
Students attending private schools specialized in educational adaptation are almost all referred by their school boards. The admission procedure may vary: in some cases, the school board forwards the files to the school, while in others, parents must initiate the process themselves. Generally, registrations take place at the end of the previous school year.
Sometimes, private schools specialized in educational adaptation may have a few available spots and can admit students who are not referred by the school board. It is recommended to visit the websites of specialized schools that can meet your child’s needs to learn more about this. In any case, the school service center in your area should be informed.
